Tata Punch will not only be the most affordable SUV in the country, but it also going to prove to be modern and safe. Tata Punch has been given a 5-star crash test safety rating by Global NCAP, similar to the company's Altroz and Nexon.

In this crash test, the new Tata Punch has rated 5 stars for adult safety with 16.45 points out of 17. In the test, the protection of the head, neck, chest, and thighs of the driver and the front passenger was found to be good. However, in this, the bone protection of the driver's feet has been described as average. Its bodyshell and footwell area is said to be stable, whereas this thing has not been found in many premium cars so far. Tata Punch's UN95 side impact test was also done, in which the car has been given an excellent safety rating due to its good performance.

Tata Punch was given a score of 40.98 out of 49 in the child safety category where it was also given a 4-star rating. It was fitted with a rear-facing child seat with ISOFIX connectors that protected the child's head and chest in case of an impact. The car was crash tested at a speed of 64 kmph and during this time it was found to lack a lap belt for the middle passenger on the rear seat.

Features such as dual front airbags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, ABS, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage have been standardized in the Tata Punch, which has played a key role in earning it a 5-star rating. If it had been given the features of electronic stability control, then it would have proved to be an even safer car.

The Punch SUV is powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine of the Altroz that generates 86 Ps of power and 113 Nm of torque. With the engine, it will be given a 5-speed manual and AMT  gearbox. Traction Pro mode will also be available with its AMT variant, which will make the car easy to drive even in difficult terrain. Tata Punch will be launched on October 18 and its starting price can be kept at Rs 5.5 lakh ex-showroom. The Punch car will compete with the Maruti Suzuki  Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT in the segment. On the price front, it will also compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand I10 Nios, Nissan Magnite, and the Renault Kiger.
