Mini Cooper Electric teaser released, to be launched in India soon

Although it is silent, it has the same sporty appeal as the standard Mini Sports hatchback.

. It is likely to cost roughly Rs 50 lakh, which is a significant increase over the normal Mini Cooper 3-door.

In India these days the trend of customers towards electric cars is slowly increasing. Soon Mini India is also going to launch its electric car here. Mini will bring here an electric version of the Cooper three-door sports hatchback which is known as the Mini SE in some countries.

Mini has also released the teaser of this electric car. The design of the electric Mini Cooper SE is similar to its regular combustion-engine model. It still retains its iconic exterior though it gets yellow highlights and aero-optimized wheels. Like other electric cars, it too has been fitted with a smooth panel instead of the front grille. The rear profile is also similar to that of the regular Mini Cooper with British Union Jack-designed taillamps.

In the cabin too, you will get a glimpse of the regular model on the central console. It has a slim 5.5-inch digital display for the instrument cluster. It gets premium upholstery and several physical control/toggles on the console, some of which are for EV-specific regenerative braking and driving modes.

The Mini Cooper SE gets a 32.6kWh battery which is bigger than Nexon Electric's 30.2kWh battery pack. The motor in it generates 184 Ps of power and 270 Nm of torque. According to Mini, it has a WLTP range of 233 kms. This electric hatchback car takes 3.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph.

The Electric Mini will take 2.5 hours to charge from 0 to 80 percent with an 11kW charger and it will take 3 hours to charge to 100 percent. It can be charged in 35 minutes with a 50 kW DC fast charger. It may take a little over 3 hours to charge from the Mini wall box charger installed by the company at customers' homes or offices.

Mini Cooper Electric can be launched in India by the end of 2021. This will be the first electric car of its segment in the country. Its price can be close to 50 lakh rupees.
