Jawa has been a popular brand in the Indian market, but it was absent in our market for some time. However, now Mahindra-owned Classic Legend has made a fresh comeback to the Jawa brand in India and has managed to regain its reputation amongst motorcycle enthusiasts. The company sells Jawa 42 and Jawa Perak in India.

In India, the Jawa standard is actually introduced in the name of Jawa, which is the entry-level bike of the brand, and its retro look, attractive features, and strong performance help to make it popular among buyers. The motorcycle is also known for its great ride and modern Italian engineering and its sturdy build quality makes it a reliable motorcycle.

In fact, Jawa has been one of the earliest motorcycles in India and was first launched in 1960. Although its production in India was stopped in 1996, it made a fresh comeback in the Indian market in 2019 in a modern avatar. The motorcycle meets the BS6 standards applicable in India from 1st April 2020, the BS6 version of which was originally launched in March 2020.

The Jawa motorcycle is primarily available in two variants with single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS, priced at Rs 1,78,415 and Rs 1,87,357 respectively. The company also sells the bike in India in a Khaki variant (with dual-channel ABS) with a new paint scheme, priced at Rs 1,93,357 (all prices, New Delhi).

For powering the Jawa motorcycle, a 293 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine has been given, which develops 27.33 Ps of power and 27.02 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a constant-mesh 6-speed gearbox and can top out at 130 kmph. The company claims that this motorcycle gives a mileage of 34 km in a liter.

Size of the Jawa Standard

The Jawa Standard is 2071 mm long, 833 mm wide, and 1090 mm high. It weighs 172 kg and has a seat height of 765 mm. The bike has a ground clearance of 165 mm and a wheelbase of 1369 mm, while its fuel tank capacity is 14 liters.

The Jawa Standard reflects the old-school design of the brand and can grab anyone's attention with its classic retro look. It has a lot of chrome as a neo-retro motorcycle, and its sleek lines are evocative of the original Jawa. Its graceful curves help to make this bike muscular. They got new longer seats, which makes riding comfortable along with the seat pan and cushioning. The motorcycle is available to buyers in three standard color options which are Grey, Black, and Maroon, while Classic Legends has introduced it in two special colors Khaki and Midnight Grey, dedicated to the Indian soldiers of the 1971 war.

Brake, Tires, and Suspension of Jawa Standard

The Jawa Standard is developed on a double cradle chassis and suspension is provided with telescopic hydraulic forks at the front and twin shock hydraulics at the rear.  For braking, there is a 280 mm disc brake with the floating caliper and ABS at the front and a 153 mm drum brake at the rear (240 mm disc with the floating caliper and ABS optional). The bike rides on 90/90-18 inch tires at the front and 120/80-17 inches at the rear. It can be bought in alloy wheel and rim options.

Competitors of the Jawa Standard

In the Indian market, Jawa Standard competes with motorcycles like Royal Enfield Bullet 350, Royal Enfield Classic 350, and Benelli Imperiale 400.
