Hyundai unveils the new mid-size crossover EV Ioniq 5.

The vehicle is based on the company's E-GMP platform. Its wheelbase is 3000 mm in length.

It can be offered with 56 kWh and 72.6 kWh battery options. It can also be given the option of rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

This electric car will be compatible with 400V and 800V charging infrastructure.

There will also be many comfort features including a semi-autonomous driver assistance system.

Sales of this electric vehicle in India can start from next year.

Hyundai has unveiled its latest mid-size crossover EV Ioniq 5. This electric car will be launched in many selected markets by the end of the year. Its design will be very modern and it can also get a lot of cabin space. This vehicle will come with a fast-charging capability. The Ioniq 5 car is built on Hyundai's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). There will be two battery packs in this vehicle, along with the option of rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The new electric vehicle from Hyundai will get 400V and 800V charging support. In this case, no additional adapter will be required. Through a 350 KW charger, its battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes. According to WLTP, this EV can cover a range of up to 100 km on charging for 5 minutes through this charger. Through its vehicle-to-load function, customers will be able to charge other electronic items using the car's battery.

The upcoming car has been produced on the company's E-GMP platform. Its wheelbase has a length of 3000 mm, which is 100 mm more than the wheelbase of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. This 5-seater car will also get good cabin space. It has a movable centre console on its flat floor which can be slide-backed up to 140 mm.

The company has chosen several environments sensitive materials for the touchpoints of its cabin. As a personalization, the Ioniq 5 car will get three interior shade options. It will be provided with a glass roof, power-adjustable front seat and slide adjustable rear seat which will improve cabin experience. The interior of this vehicle will get a dual-screen setup (12-inch unit) for the hood-less driver display and touchscreen display for the infotainment system.

At the same time, its exterior will be inspired by the Hyundai Pony, a small rear-wheel-drive automobile that was manufactured in 1975-1990. The crossover car gets sharp character lines and a sporty windscreen rake. Apart from this, 20-inch big wheels are also fitted in the Ioniq 5 EV.

Talking about the features, this new electric car from Hyundai will feature Highway Driving Assist 2 (Semi-Autonomous Driving Assist). Apart from this, it can also get features such as Remote Parking Assist, Bluelink Connected Car Technology, Surround View Monitor, Forward Collison-Avoidance Assist and Augmented Reality Headup Display.

In the segment, the Ioniq 5 may compete with the Tesla Model Y. It will also be compared to Kia's first EV, which can be introduced by March 2021.
