2021 Jeep Wrangler's local assembly starts, SUV will be launched soon in the country

With the price falling around Rs 40 lakh, the legendary Wrangler should be more accessible now.

Jeep India has started assembling the Wrangler SUV at the Ranjangaon manufacturing plant in Pune. Its 2021 model will be launched on March 15. Pre-booking of this upcoming SUV has also been started at the dealerships. For the first time, the Wrangler will be manufactured in India since earlier this SUV was being imported as CBU (Completely built unit) and sold here.

Jeep India has already shown a glimpse of the 2021 Wrangler on its website. It will be available in two variants: Rubicon and Sahara. Since earlier this SUV was being imported and sold in India, its price was much higher from Rs 63.94 lakh to Rs 68.94 lakh(ex-showroom). Now, assembling it in India, its price will fall flat and it may be launched at less than Rs 40 lakh. For example, the US-Spec Unlimited Sahara variant of the Jeep Wrangler is selling for US$ 38,645 which is 27.96 lakh rupees according to Indian currency.

The imported wrangler was powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine capable of generating 268 Ps of power and 400 Nm of torque. An 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox was provided with this engine. Now the same engine can be given in the Wrangler 2021 and with this, the company can also offer the option of a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The Wrangler also has an all-wheel-drive system with low and high modes and a differential lock feature on both axles.

The Wrangler, manufactured in India, will continue to get features such as an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity, connected car technology, push-button start-stop, twin-pod analogue instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, LED headlamps, ambient lighting, washable floor as well as front and side airbags as before.

After the Wrangler, Jeep will also launch its Compass based 7-seater SUV, which will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. It can be showcased by the end of 2021. After this, Jeep can launch the Made In India Grand Cherokee in 2022.
