Tata Harrier petrol variant to be launched in India in 2021

Tata Motors will soon add a turbo-petrol engine option to its flagship SUV Harrier, which will reduce the entry-level price of the SUV.

Tata Motors is going to launch many of its vehicles in India in the year 2021, including Tata Gravitas, Tata HBX, Tata Altroz Turbo and Tata Altroz EV. Apart from this, the company is also working on a new petrol engine for its flagship SUV Tata Harrier.

It is believed that Tata Motors will launch this new variant next year and after its introduction, its price will be lower than the current diesel edition. With the introduction of this variant, Harrier will become more accessible to buyers. Earlier, Tata Harrier petrol variants have been spotted many times during testing on the roads.

The model spotted during testing closely resembles the diesel model. Earlier it was expected that this variant could be launched by the end of 2020, but Tata Motors has had to delay its new product launches this year and Harrier Petrol is now expected to be launched during the first quarter of 2021.

The Tata Harrier's petrol edition is expected to offer a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, inline-4 cylinder petrol motor. This powerplant can develop peak power of 150 Ps and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. In contrast to the Nexon engine, the new engine will feature direct-injection, which should improve performance and economy.

Like the diesel edition, the petrol-powered Harrier will be offered with a choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Petrol engines have gained a lot of popularity among buyers after the introduction of Bs6 norms in India, mainly because petrol cars are cheaper than diesel cars.

Currently, the Tata Harrier is priced from Rs. 13.84 lakhs to Rs. 20.30 lakhs and we except the turbo-petrol edition to be affordable in comparison, starting at around Rs. 11.50 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi). Which will be directly compared to MG Hector Plus and Jeep Compass.
