Ford is working to launch a range of new cars next year in India, including JV C-segment SUVs, three CBUs, as well as Figo and Ecosport next-generation models.
Ford India currently has 6 vehicles in its portfolio, including Figo, Freestyle, Aspire, Ecosport, Endeavour and Mustang. However, no car is the best-selling model in its respective segment. Therefore, the company has now started to improve its portfolio. Explain that the company has sold only 3991 units of cars in the Indian market in November 2020.
Ford ranked last in the list of top 10 sales last month. The company currently holds only 1.4 per cent of the Indian market. However, it is also to be noted here that Ford has plans for several new cars for the Indian market, including launching 6 cars in the country next year.
1. Ford Focus
In Ford's global line-up, Focus is above Fiesta and the car is currently in its fourth generation. The hatchback is offered with various powertrains, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost unit that produces 125 Ps of power, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid version, a 1.5-litre EcoBlue oil burner which generates 120 Ps of power and 300 Nm of torque. It is also powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which generates 150 Ps of maximum power and a peak torque of 370 Nm.
Focus Range-topping variants include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-inch TFT infotainment display with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, LED headlights and tail lamps, dual-zone climate control, Ford Pass connectivity etc. are part of the package.
2. Ford Focus ST
Ford has decided to discontinue the Focus hatch's super sporty RS Edition due to European emission norms and higher costs. Therefore, the ST Edition becomes the sportiest Focus that is now offered in European countries. Above the regular Focus, the performance rated ST gets some distinctive equipment like 19-inch magnetite wheels, unique ST front and rear bumper, specialized ST front and lower grille, all style kit, large rear spoiler, surround ST badging.
Apart from this, Electronic Limited Slip Differential is also part of the package. The biggest change, however, is its 2.3-litre Ecoboost powertrain that produces 280 Ps of power and 420 Nm of peak torque. It comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 7-speed automatic.
3. Ford Ranger Raptor
The Ford Ranger is the pickup edition of the Everest SUV, also known as the Endeavour. The Ranger Raptor is the performance-oriented version of the pick-up truck, which is optimized for high-speed off-road driving. The Ranger Raptor gets a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that gives a maximum power of 213 Ps and a peak torque of 500 Nm.
This engine comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission similar to the Bs6 Endeavour. The four-wheel-drive system is standard in this pickup truck, while it can cost around Rs 65-70 lakh.
4. New Ford Figo
Ford Figo has not received any substantial updates since its launch in 2015, but the company is now planning to update it. So that its low sales can be increased. Ford has confirmed that a new edition of Figo will be launched by the end of the year 2021.
For power, it could get Mahindra's mStallion 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, which was originally showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. This engine will debut in the country with the XUV300 Sportz. So we except its power output to be around 110 Ps with the Ford Hatch.
5. New Generation Ford EcoSport
Even after 8 years of sales in the country, the Ford Ecosport is like its first generation. The Ecosport is also the first sub-4-meter SUV to be launched in India. However, there are now around 8 cars in India in this segment. Hence its sales have come down.
Ford is working on introducing the new Generation EcoSport, which can be equipped with a 1.2-litre mStallion TGDi turbo petrol engine similar to the Mahindra XUV300 sport. This engine will produce 130 Ps of maximum power 230 Nm of peak torque.
6. Ford New C-segment SUV
A series of SUVs will be developed for the Indian market under the joint venture between Mahindra and Ford with the result being a new Ford C-segment SUV, expected to debut in the middle of next year. This SUV has been given the codename CX757 for internal use.
The upcoming new Ford C-segment SUV will share its bits with the new generation XUV500. The new XUV500 is also to be launched in India next year. Ford also previously confirmed that the new C-segment SUV will be designed by Mahindra-owned Italian car design company Pininfarina.
