New Mahindra Thar

In the base models of the new Mahindra Thar, jump seats were given on the rear side, just like the previous generation Thar.

Its AX standard was the only variant that cost less than Rs 10 lakh as it did not have a mechanical locking differential feature.

Buying new entry-level AX optional petrol variants of Thar has now become expensive by 2 lakh rupees.

The AX and AX standard variants were available only with fixed soft-tops.

The AX optional and LX variants have been given factory fitted roof options including several comforts and safety features.

The 4-star Global NCAP crash test rating is valid only on the 4-seater version of Thar.

Mahindra has discontinued the new generation Thar's 6 seater variants AX standard and AX. The company launched this SUV in India on 2 October and it was introduced in four variants AX standard, AX, AX Optional and LX. Now, this Mahindra SUV will be available only in two variants AX optional and LX.

Its base variants AX and AX standard were very similar to the previous generation Thar. Jump seats were given on the rear side in these variants coming in 6 seater layout. These variants of the new Thar we're more practical, safer and equipped with premium features had become more popular. The company stopped taking orders for the base variants of the new Thar 2020 a few months ago and has now been completely shut down.

The only difference between Thar's AX and AX standard variants was that its AX standard variant was given a 2.2-litre diesel engine and lacked the mechanical locking differential feature. This was the only variant of Thar which was priced below Rs 10 lakh. Both these variants were available only with fixed soft tops. Comfort features were also rarely given in these. The new Thar in India now has an initial price of Rs 11.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The front-facing rear seats are provided with a roll cage in its AX optional and LX variants. Both these variants have the option of the convertible soft top and fixed hardtop. Please tell that its AX variants were not given 4-star crash test rating as these variants were given the option of the side-facing rear seats with no seat belts and child seat anchors.

The current variant of the 2020 Mahindra Thar has a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine option. At the same time, only the LX variant has the option of an automatic transmission with both engines. The AX optional variants of this SUV have features such as AC, power windows, ISOFIX child seat anchor, remote keyless entry and height-adjustable driver seat.
