Maruti Suzuki will bring back diesel engine cars again in 2021, first option can be found in Vitara Brezza and Ertiga

After Bs6 norms, which come into effect from 1 April 2020, only cars with petrol engines are present in the company's portfolio.

The company can offer this engine in its SUV and MPV due to the high demand for diesel variants.

Maruti designed the 1.5-litre diesel engine in 2018 and will now upgrade it to Bs6 Norms.

These diesel engines can be found first in the Vitara Brezza and the Ertiga, followed by the XL6 and S-Cross.

The Bs6 diesel variant can be costlier by around Rs 1.4 lakh than the regular petrol-manual variant.

Bs6 norms come into effect in India from April 1, 2020, and during that time Maruti had said that it would not upgrade any of its diesel engines to Bs6 norms. Subsequently, Renault, Nissan and Skoda-Volkswagen followed the same strategy. Now only petrol cars of these companies are available for sale in India. But now it has been reported that Maruti is going to bring back its 1.5-litre diesel engine in 2021 and it is being said that this engine can be offered in SUV and MPV segment vehicle first.

While shutting down diesel vehicles, Maruti Suzuki had said that if they get more demand for diesel cars, then they will consider starting them again. The company had discontinued diesel cars because it is very expensive to upgrade the diesel engine to Bs6 norms. But now it seems that Maruti is planning to start diesel cars again due to high demand for diesel cars. Hyundai, Tata, Kia and Mahindra's diesel cars have received good demand in the sub-4 meter SUV and compact SUV segment in the recent past.

Maruti has designed a 1.5-litre diesel engine in the year 2018 and it was given in Ertiga and Ciaz. It was a Bs4 engine that generates 95 Ps of power and 225 Nm of torque. Along with the engine, it was given a 6-speed manual gearbox and its mileage was around 25 kilometre per litre. After upgrading this engine to Bs6 Norms, the company will first be going to offer it in Vitara Brezza and Ertiga. After this, it can also be given in XL6 and S-Cross.
