Skoda Vision IN will get its production name in the first week of January 2021, while a car ready for production will only be revealed in March next year.

At the February 2020 Auto Expo, Skoda Auto India unveiled the concept model of a compact SUV named Skoda Vision IN. And the production model of this Skoda SUV may be revealed in India in March 2021. But before it's march reveal, this SUV will get its production name in the first week of January 2021.

After its launch in India, this car is going to compete with SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos. While there is still a few months left for the launch of this SUV, but we have compiled some important things about this upcoming SUV, which you need to know about:

1. Platform

The Skoda Vision IN will be based on the Volkswagen group's heavily localized MQB A0 IN platform. It will become the first car in India to be developed on this platform, which will also be used for the upcoming VW and Skoda cars. The upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will also be developed on this platform. It should be noted here that the production model will have a length of 4256 mm, while its wheelbase will be 2671 mm.

2. Design

Although the Vision IN was seen in concept form at the Auto Expo 2020, we assume that the version ready for production would be very close as far as the overall silhouette is concerned. The car is expected to get a two-piece LED headlamp design, which will be integrated with LED DRLs. The front will feature Skoda's signature butterfly grille and the SUV will support the Skoda lettering at the tailgate instead of the brand logo, as seen on all new Skoda cars. Also on offer will be 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels along with functional roof rails.

3. Powertrains

The Skoda SUV is expected to get two different engines, with the first being a 1️.0-litre three-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine that will likely be offered with its base trims, while the range-topping variant will be offered with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine. Its 1.0-litre motor has also been used in Skoda Rapid. And like the Rapid Sedan, this engine is expected to come with 110 Ps of power and 175 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre TSI unit can produce a maximum power of 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. The transmission which can be offered with it will be 6-speed manual and an optional DSG gearbox.

4. Features & safety

Talking about the features the SUV is expected to get a large freestanding touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, connected-car tech, 10.25-inch virtual cockpit instrument cluster, electric sunroof, automatic climate control and much more. Talking about safety, the SUV will get several airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a rearview camera, hill-start assist control, tire pressure monitoring system etc.

5. Price & Rivals

The Skoda Vision IN will be placed under the Karoq in the Indian line-up, making it the country's cheapest Skoda SUV. Skoda is expected to aggressively set the price for the Vision IN, and the starting price is expected to be around Rs 10 lakh. When launched in India, it will compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, as well as the base variants of MG Hector and Tata Harrier.
