Volkswagen launched the compact SUV T-Roc here just before the lockdown imposed in India in March due to Corona Virus. In India, it was being brought via the CBU ( Completely built-up ) route and was available for sale only in the single top of the line variant. Which included five colour options Yellow, Energetic Orange, Ravenna Blue, Indium Grey, Deep Black and pure White. Now the German carmaker has announced that all 1000 units of T-Roc that were allocated for India for 2020 have been sold out and the car will no longer be available for sale this year.

The Volkswagen T-Roc was priced at Rs 19.99 lakh ( ex-showroom, India ). Styling like European cars, this SUV gets exterior features like a panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels and dual-chamber LED headlamps. As for comfort features, this imported car from Volkswagen has dual-zone climate control, 12.3-inch virtual cockpit, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple car play and mirror link connectivity, premium 'Vienna' leather seats and power-adjustable driver seats. Standard safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera.

The T-Roc only features a single powertrain option: a 1.5- litre 4-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine capable of generating 150 Ps of power and 250 Nm of torque. Along with the engine, it has a 7-speed DSG ( dual-clutch automatic ) gearbox. Its engine has also been given active cylinder technology which closes two out of four cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. In terms of performance, Volkswagen claims a 0 to 100 mph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.

In India, the Volkswagen premium SUV competed against cars like the Jeep Compass, Skoda Kodiaq and Hyundai Tucson. With all the allotted units spoken for, the company has now stopped taking bookings of T-Roc and the remaining units will soon be delivered to customers over the coming months.

Volkswagen could assemble it here next year, considering the good response T-Roc has received from the Indian market. However, the company is currently focused on the Taigun first which will be the company's first made in India small SUV that sits in the highly lucrative compact SUV segment. The Taigun will take on Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the upcoming Skoda Vision IN.
