Skoda Rapid automatic will be launched on September 17

The 6-speed torque converter unit is also used in other cars of the Volkswagen group such as the Polo GT and Vento.

Skoda Rapid Automatic

  • The automatic variant will get the same 1.0 litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine, whose power output is 110 PS/ 175 NM.
  • All variants except the base variant rider will get an automatic gearbox option.
  • Automatic is also available in all other cars in the segment such as the Honda City, Toyota Yaris, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.
  • The price of automatic variant is expected a premium of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh then the manual variants.

Skoda has launched the Rapid 1.0 TSI a few months back but at that time, Czech manufacturer only reveals the price of manual version. The automatic variant of Rapid was expected to be offered in the coming months and now the carmaker has revealed the launch date of Rapid Automatic. Skoda Rapid automatic will be launched in India on 17 September. Company has already started accepting bookings of this car interested customers can book it by paying a token amount of Rs 25000.

Under the hood, the Rapid automatic will get the same 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine which it gets with a manual variant that generates 110 PS of power and 175 NM of torque. Currently, the only manual transmission has been given with this engine and now it will soon include the option of automatic. Sadly, the 7-speed DSG is no longer on offer with Rapid, but even before, it was only offered with the diesel Rapid which is no longer on sale after the up-gradation to Bs6 emission norms. The previously offered 1.6 litres naturally aspirated petrol engine was offered with a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.

As far as the variant is concerned in Skoda Rapid all variants except the base variant rider will get automatic transmission option. Interested customers will be able to take Rapid rider plus, Ambition, Onyx, style and Monte Carlo variants with automatic transmission.

Since it has only changed the powertrain, the Rapid AT's feature list and design will be very similar to the manual variants.

In the mid-sized sedan segment where the Rapid competes, it will compete with Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. For your information, let us know that the petrol automatic combination has already been given in all these cars. As we said, the Rapid will get an automatic transmission option from the Rider Plus variant onwards, so it could become the least expensive automatic option in the segment.

If we talk about pricing over its manual counterpart, this powertrain combo is also used by other cars in the Volkswagen family as well such as Polo GT and Vento where it comes at a premium of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh then their manual counterpart. So we expect the same pricing for the Rapid also. And if exclude the Rider variant of Rapid which will not be getting the automatic transmission.  Currently, the Skoda Rapid manual is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 11.79 lakh ( ex-showroom, India ).
