Kia Sonet launched in India, price starts from just Rs 6.71 lakhs

The Kia Sonet compact SUV is offered in four engine and five transmission options and have been made more than 25000 bookings so far.

Kia Motors India has finally launched its sub-4 meter compact SUV Sonet in India today. The price of this SUV starts at just Rs 6.71 lakh for the base variant and goes up to Rs 11.99 lakh for the top-spec variant. The company has already started booking for this car which can be booked by paying Rs 25,000 ( both online and dealerships ).

Kia Motors had made a global debut of Sonet SUV from India recently and now it's launch has been also started from India it's self. After this, this car will also make it's way to overseas. The company followed some strategy a year ago for it's blockbuster SUV Kia Seltos.

Sonet has been launched in India in a total of two trims: Tech line and GT line in which a buyer can purchase from a total of 6 different variants: Tech line trim features five variants: HTE, HTK, HTK Plus, HTX and HTX Plus and the GT-Line trim of Sonet only have one top-spec variant GTX Plus. Kia Sonet is available in a total of 10 different colour options to choose from which 7 are monotone colours and 3 are dual-tone. Seven monotone colour options are: Clear White, Steel Silver, Intense Red, Gravity Grey, Aurora Black Pearl, Intelligency Blue, Beige Gold and three dual-tone colour options are: Red with black roof, white Pearl with black roof and Beige Gold with black roof.

If we talk about the feature list of the car, there are some differences between the base and the top variants. The base variant of the car gets 15-inch steel wheels, 3.5-inch mono-colour MID, power windows ( front seats ), USB charging port ( both front and rear ), power-adjustable ORVMs, rear AC vents and tilt-adjustable steering wheel.

On the other hand, a top-spec variant of Sonet get features such as 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, 4.2-inch colour MID, projector fog lamps, front and rear faux skid plates, all power windows, leatherette upholstery, push-button start/stop, remote engine start, height-adjustable driver's seat, follow-me-home headlamps, wireless smartphone charger, auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats and 10.25 inch bose touchscreen infotainment system with Apple car play and android auto connectivity and 57 UVO connected features are also part of the package. 

The Sonet also has the largest boot and more ground clearance in the segment, while safety features include dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and rear parking sensors in the base trims. Similarly, front parking sensors, parking camera, brake assist are also provided with six airbags on the top-spec trim. Overall, the Sonet is a feature-loaded SUV and is going to be a blockbuster product for the company.

The new Kia Sonet shares it's engine, transmissions and platforms with the Hyundai Venue. The Sonet is offered in India with a total of three engine options which include 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. The 1.2-litre petrol engine of Sonet produces 83 PS of power and 115 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes with the option of 5-speed manual gearbox.

Similarly, the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine of Sonet which is it's most powerful engine produces 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of peak torque. This engine is offered with two transmission options which are 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT. Sonet's 1.5 litre CRDi diesel engine will be available in two states of tune as opposed to the Venue, with the first being the FGT (Fixed Geometry Turbocharger ) Edition, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission with 100 PS of power and 240 Nm of peak torque. The second is the VGT ( Variable Geometry Turbocharger ) edition, which is capable of developing 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The motor has been mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic, the first in the segment. Talking about the mileage of the Kia Sonet, the 1.5-litre diesel engine has a mileage of 24.1 kmpl with the 6-speed manual gearbox, while the same diesel engine with 6-speed automatic gearbox gives a mileage of 19 kmpl. It has a mileage of 18.4 kmpl in a petrol engine while a turbo petrol engine gives a mileage of 18.2 kmpl.

Kia Sonet in India will competes against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Venue, Honda WR-V and the upcoming Toyota urban cruiser, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite which are bound for early next year.
