Pre-bookings for Volkswagen T-ROC SUV opens in India

Volkswagen's first volume product under its India 2.0 project will be the company's first compact SUV named Taigun which they showcased at Auto Expo in near-production form. Volkswagen has already announced its intention to strengthen the SUV portfolio in India as its T-ROC and Tiguan Allspace SUV's are on display at the Indian Expo Mart. The German manufacturer showcased a total of four SUVs at the Auto Expo all of which are coming to India in the feature and one of the four Suv's which will reach dealership soon is T-ROC mid-size SUV, whose launch will take place in April 2020.

The T-ROC SUV will be bought in India as a completely built-up unit ( CBU ), under the Government of  India 2500 car import rule. Volkswagen dealership already starts accepting pre-booking for the T-ROC SUV for Rs 25000. When launched T-ROC will be positioned between the upcoming Taigun and Tiguan SUVs. T-ROC features a premium exterior that is not too flashy nor determined. If we talk about dimensions, the T-ROC measures 4234 mm in length, 1819 mm in width, 1573 mm height and a wheelbase of 2590 mm. Initially, it will be offered in limited numbers but depending on the response of the market it could be locally assembled in the future. The expected price of the T-ROC should be around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 23 lakh ( Ex-showroom).

Volkswagen T-ROC will be available in India in a single fully-loaded variant. Feature list will include full LED headlamps and taillamps, Dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, Front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlamps and DRLs. On the inside, it will come with a digital instrument cluster, Dual-zone automatic climate control, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with apple car play and android auto, a panoramic sunroof, Vienna leather seats, reverse parking camera, keyless entry, and a push-button start-stop function. In terms of safety features, it will come with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC and a tire pressure monitoring system.

The T-ROC is built on Volkswagen's hugely flexible MQB platform. With a length of 4.2 m, the T-ROC sits below the Tiguan SUV in the Volkswagen SUV line up. It is available in multiple powertrains options across the globe but for India, the mid-size premium SUV will come with a single power train option which is 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI EVO turbocharged petrol engine that produces 150 Ps of power and 250 Nm of torque and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. No manual gearbox will be offered with T-ROC. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system will also not going to be part of the package instead of power will be transmitted to the front wheels.

Volkswagen's SUV offense in India under its India 2.0 project will kick start from their Tiguan Allspace SUV whose booking has been opened at Rs 50000. The older seven-seater variant of Tiguan will be replaced by the current five-seater variant and will be launched next month in India. Right after that, the T-ROC will be launched in April 2020. After launch, Volkswagen T-ROC will compete with Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, upcoming facelifted Mahindra XUV 500, Upcoming Hyundai Tucson facelift and upcoming Skoda Karoq in the Indian market.
